SAP RISE Optimization

Your RISE bill follows your roles. Make your roles follow your usage.

Under RISE with SAP, each user is classified by the authorizations assigned to them, whether or not they use them. We close that gap two ways: a SAM4U tenant on Skybuffer Cloud that is ready within 24 hours, with an MCP server for agentic AI analysis, and license consultants who have already done it at Gainesville Regional Utilities.

Built on SAM4U, the measurement SAP provides to every RISE customer. Nothing is replaced: every result is measured, validated and re-measured in SAP's own tool.

Reclassifying 120 users from Advanced to Core would save 96 FUE (17%).

Uses SAP's published ratios: 1 Advanced user, 5 Core users or 30 Self-Service users each count as 1 FUE. An orientation, not a measurement: the real number comes from what each user actually runs, measured in SAM4U.

One advanced authorization promotes the entire user.

The classification takes the highest category any of a user's authorizations allows. A single change authorization, added to a role years ago for a project, can turn a Core user into an Advanced one, along with every other user who holds that role.

Finding those authorizations, proving they are unused and removing them without breaking anyone's work is the whole job. It is also where most of the cost sits.

Accelerator for SAM4U Adoption on Skybuffer Cloud

Your SAM4U tenant on Skybuffer Cloud, ready within 24 hours.

SAP's standard license measurement as a hosted, performance-optimized service, extended with dashboards, simulation and AI recommendations. Your own team analyzes and optimizes consumption independently, without starting a consulting project.

24 hfrom order to a provisioned tenant you can load data into
  1. 1

    Order

Through SAP Store or directly from Skybuffer, whichever suits your procurement team.

  2. 2

    Tenant within 24 hours

We provision your SAM4U tenant on Skybuffer Cloud. Nothing to install in your landscape.

  3. 3

    Load your data

Collect measurement data from your SAP systems and load it into the tenant.

  4. 4

    Analyze and simulate

Dashboards, simulation and AI recommendations work from the first load.

Dashboards against your contract

Consumption against your contracted FUE by license category, role and organizational unit, refreshed with every measurement.

AI recommendations

Business AI insights point to the changes that are fast to make, realistic to obtain and worth the most, so you know where to start.

Simulation before production

Test a role change against recorded usage and see its FUE effect before anything is transported.

Active versus potential usage

What users actually run, next to what their roles allow them to run, side by side for every candidate role.

S/4HANA projection

Simulate what an ECC landscape would consume under RISE before you sign, based on the roles you run today.

MCP server for agentic analysis

AI agents query consumption, role content and usage evidence directly and propose the actions to take, each with its FUE effect. See how it works

SAM4U covers user licenses, engine licenses and SAP HANA database consumption. The Accelerator adds reporting, simulation and AI on top, with SAM4U as the authoritative source for every figure.

Agentic analysis over MCP

An MCP server that turns FUE measurement into actions.

Skybuffer's MCP server sits on your SAM4U data. AI agents use it to read consumption, role content, authorization checks and every user's active usage footprint, then work out which actions in your SAP system would lower FUE consumption without taking away anything people use.

Each proposal is simulated against recorded usage before it reaches you, with its effect on the license classification. Your team reviews every action and carries it out through your normal process.

Reassign cohort C2, display and reporting only, from Z_FI_AP_CLERK to the existing role Z_FI_AP_DISPLAYAdvanced to Core
Remove one change authorization from Z_MM_BUYER, unused by every holder for 12 monthsAdvanced to Core
Keep cohort C1 on Z_FI_AP_CLERK: active Advanced usage recordedNo change

Correct role content

Remove or relocate the one authorization that promotes a role, when usage shows that nobody holding it exercises it.

Sort users into cohorts

Group users by their active usage footprint, so each cohort is judged by what its members actually run.

Reassign to an alternative role

Move a cohort whose footprint fits an existing, lower-classified role onto it, leaving the role unchanged.

License optimization consulting

License optimization consulting that has already worked.

When you would rather we did the work, Skybuffer's license specialists run the analysis with your team, using the same MCP server and agents: an evidence-based method, a precise action list and re-measurement in SAM4U. Gainesville Regional Utilities is the reference.

Municipal multi-service utility, Gainesville and Alachua County, Florida

Gainesville Regional Utilities aligned RISE license consumption with actual usage in three weeks.

GRU combined SAP's SAM4U with the Accelerator and Skybuffer's consultants. Working through the MCP server, the team moved between consumption figures, role content, authorization checks and active usage in single sessions, testing and simulating each candidate change before any of it reached the system. Measured FUE consumption fell by about half and came within the contracted entitlement, through eight targeted changes to role and authorization content.

About halfless measured FUE consumption, now within entitlement

Three weeksthree analysis iterations and ten measurement cycles

Eight changesacross a landscape of hundreds of roles; no role rebuilt

No disruptionno user with recorded activity lost a function they used

“Our team knows our processes, Skybuffer knows the measurement mechanics, and the tooling let us test ideas quickly instead of arguing about them.”
Jayson O’Mahoney, IT Security Administrator, Gainesville Regional Utilities

The majority of users whose classification changed needed no change to their role assignments at all. Where a change was needed, users moved to an existing alternative role that matched their active usage, and the utility's role concept was left as it was.

How an engagement runs. Three weeks at GRU, always in this order.

  1. 1

    Extract

Bring authorization and usage data from every productive system into SAM4U.

  2. 2

    Measure and consolidate

Establish the FUE baseline across systems, the way SAP will measure it.

  3. 3

    Find the promotions and cohorts

Find the authorizations that promote users, and group users into cohorts by active usage.

  4. 4

    Simulate

Test each candidate change against active usage and drop the ones that would not hold.

  5. 5

    Remediate

A precise action list: role changes and reassignments, each backed by usage evidence.

  6. 6

    Re-measure and evidence

Measure again in SAM4U and document the result against your contract.

What you receive

  • An action list by role and by user cohort: content changes and reassignments to alternative roles, each backed by usage evidence
  • A written report of consumption against your contracted entitlement
  • Re-measurement in SAM4U after the changes go live
  • Ongoing monitoring and RISE metering verification, if you want it
